The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
